CARBON DURABILITY

IAG synchronizers feature carbon cloth friction surfaces bonded to the brass baulk rings.  These carbon friction surfaces improve durability while decreasing the time and force necessary to achieve a gear shift.  Unlike our factory carbon synchros which use a sprayed and molded carbon coating to achieve similar performance but are only available on 4th,5th, and 6th gears, IAG's carbon synchros utilize a carbon friction surface even on the multi-cone 1st, 2nd, and 3rd synchros.

Select the correct synchronizers based on the application.  In some cases, due to parts updating, MY04-06 applications may need to use a MY07 synchro set.  This can identified by the number of holes in the gear to engage the synchronizer cone.  MY04-06 applications use 6 hole gears for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.  MY07 changed to 4 hole gears.  Since there are no replacement 6 hole gears available any longer from Subaru, if its necessary to replace a gear you must update to a 4 hole gear design and change the corresponding synchronizer.  If you have a mix of 6 hole and 4 hole gears then either you will need to purchase two IAG synchro sets or you will need to update the remaining 6 hole gears to 4 hole types.

NOTE:  Change between MY06 and MY07 synchro types actually occurs on production date April 27, 2004.  So some late MY06 applications may require MY07 synchro set.  Again checking the number of holes in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears is the easiest way to identify which kit you need.
