Timing Belt Tensioner and Pulley MY90-96
The belt tensioner is responsible for taking up any slack in the timing belt to maintain accurate cam timing. This older style tensioner uses a separate tensioner pulley (you can purchase separately). This type of tensioner is frequently used for high grip tensioner brackets such as from RCM.
A failed tensioner may leak oil or may make noise during engine operation. A good tensioner will have a high amount of resistance when compressing the plunger and will maintain that resistance over the full range of travel.
