RalliSpec Type STI 5MT Gear Set MY99-07

Our Type STI gearset was originally developed as an economical upgrade for the weak MY02 WRX transmission.  Based on the JDM GC8 STI gears which were designed to support higher torque levels than the USDM WRX and offered improved ratios.  Later USDM models eventually incorporated these gears into the transmission including the MY05-09 Legacy GT and MY08-14 WRX which have similar variations of these gears and the same ratios.

All gears are REM ISF© treated.  ISF (isotropic superfinishing) is a treatment process that eliminates roughness and microscopic grooving created by the machining processes establishing a highly polished part with minimal dimensional change.  It is non-directional and strengthens the part by reducing or eliminating stress raisers on the surface that can initiate cracks and failures.  The lowered surface roughness has the benefits of reducing friction, lowering gearbox oil temperatures, and eliminating any need for running in the gears prior to fully loading them.

These are factory-based gears and even with the superfinishing process will not hold up to extreme power outputs.  We suggest a maximum of 400whp and use only with an organic clutch disc.  No warranty is provided.

The base kit contains the main shaft and all forward gears as well as a required metal speedometer gear calibrated for a 3.9 final drive ratio (other ratios will require a VSS calibration box such as iWire's iVSS if you wish to have accurate speedometer readings).

Each application-specific kit is supplied with the minimum necessary parts for correct installation for the specific transmission.
