Matt Iorio and the Paladin Rally Team made it two wins in a row with their victory at Baie Des Chaleurs, the latest round of the Canadian rally championship. Coming off their victory in Pennsylvania last month, this win at Baie helps solidify their position in the North American Rally Championship.

Amazingly, Matt arrived in Canada not looking to win but instead was focused on debuting their latest rally car for the first time. This new car, again based on the Impreza GC8 platform, features a number of radical advancements over their previous cars. Among those advancements is a highly modified engine developed and built by RalliSpec. The Paladin team had no illusions about the development work ahead and seat time required to come to grips with this new car.

Perhaps it was this cautious approach to the event that helped Iorio stay clear of trouble while his rivals suffered setbacks. Antoine L'Estage in the Hyundai, who looked set to dominate the rally, fell victim to a suspension failure on the first day. The rally lead then fell to Sylvain Erickson but it was short lived as Erickson went off the road two stages later and lost nearly 14 minutes. That incident handed Iorio the lead and he never looked back, ultimately racking up more than a 7 minute advantage over fellow American Tim Penasack.

Iorio's victory at Baie is his first in a Canadian national rally. However, the team looks set to establish a dominant presence on both sides of the border this year. Debuting a radically new and untested car and coming away with such a commanding victory shows the level of commitment and preparation that Paladin Rally is capable of. In addition, debuting two new and untested engines in the span of one month with two top place finishes demonstrates the capabilities of Paladin's technical partner, RalliSpec Ltd. However, according to Matt, "This is just the start of the development of this car."

Both Paladin Rally and Team RalliSpec are next heading to the rock-strewn stages of the Maine Forest Rally at the end of July.
