Installation parts are now sold separately from the gear set. Please select the required install kit when ordering either type RA or type STI gear sets. Base kit includes main shaft, 1st to 5th gears, and speedometer gear. '99-'01 turbo models (non-USA models) should order MY02 WRX install kit.


This is the least expensive way to substantially increase the reliability of the WRX gearbox. Only Rallispec RA & STi gearsets feature the REM isotropic superfinishing process (micro-polish) now treated entirely in-house. ISF provides substantial benefits in terms of reducing gear tooth friction and eliminating surface imperfections (stress risers). REM ISF is used extensively at the highest levels of motorsport (F1, WRC, Nascar). Our real world testing has shown huge improvements in reliability far beyond any other surface treatment we have tested.
Type RA sets are close ratio sets for maximum acceleration and performance.
Type STi sets are similar to stock (slightly closer ratio in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd) for better highway performance and top speed capabilities. RA has a slight edge in torque capacity over the STi sets.

Install kits come with the parts necessary to properly install the gear set into your particular vehicle. At minimum the kit will include a full set of shaft lock nuts, case gasket, and oil seal. Some kits will include additional parts such as updated synchro hubs, thrust washer, shift rail, etc.

PPG synchro gear sets feature specially engineered tooth profiles capable of transmitting massive torque outputs. Straight cut tooth proiles are recommended for racing applications with extreme shockloading while helical cut profile is recommended for street applications requiring quiet operation. It is possible to combine 1st/2nd straight cut with helical 3rd/4th at no additional cost. Strongly recommended for applications exceeding the limitations of the RA or STi gears. No additional parts are included. Installation requirements vary by vehicle. We recommend having us handle the installation work (contact us for pricing).

PPG dog gear sets are designed for fast and reliable shifts within the racing environment. Group N set (shown in top picture) comes as semi-assembled shafts along with special reinforced 2-piece main shaft, reverse idler gear, all 3 selector forks in billet steel, and shift interlocker (to prevent selecting 2 gears at once). The Group N dog set is the strongest 5-speed gear kit we offer.

4-gear dog sets come with one piece main shaft, 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th dog rings, reverse idler gear, and 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th billet selector forks. Shift interlocker should be purchased separately.

6MT upgrade options for various applications. JDM close ratio conversion includes 5th & 6th gear set (add $60 for set of 3 carbon baulk rings for 4th, 5th, and 6th gears). Use to improve on problematic 4th,5th,6th synchro performance. Or use to convert USDM/Euro gearbox to proper Group N ratios.

High speed ratio conversion ideal for high speed track or drag use. Improves gear spacing over existing USDM ratios. Includes main shaft and 2nd-6th gears. Includes updated 2nd and 3rd synchros (required for pre-'06 models) and special keyways.

Billet selector fork kit includes 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, and 5th/6th forks machined from steel billet for maximum reliability. Eliminates worn out plastic fork tabs (a serious problem on the 6MT) which can lead to loss of shift precision.
