H-Beam Forged Connecting Rods

Manley H-beam forged rods are an economical choice for a performance engine build. Each rod is machined from a 4340 forging, heat treated, stress relieved, shot peened, and 100% magnaflux inspected. Sets come weight matched to +/-1.5grams. Available with ARP2000 (Standard) or ARP Custom Age 625+ (H-Plus) fasteners. The "H-Tuff" rod features a heavy duty beam for more extreme applications (there is a 30gram weight difference).

Are H-beam or I-beam connecting rods better? The choice of I-beam versus H-beam is really dependent on the type of loads the rod must withstand and other considerations. It is impossible to make a generalized statement that one is always better than the other. For the most part H-beam rods can be designed to better provide the stiffness and rigidity necessary in a turbocharged application where compressive loads are quite high while I-beam rods can be made more suitable to the high tensile loads of a high revving normally aspirated application. Of course this is a simplification.

Which rod bolts should I select? ARP 2000 bolts are the standard material ARP uses for their rod bolts while Custom Age 625+ is a special super alloy with about 30 to 40% higher tensile strength and excellent fatigue cycle life. The choice will generally come down the engine build budget and the application. High RPM and extreme power applications should definitely consider this option.

What is the weight of this rod? Approximately 530 grams (560 grams for H-Tuff).
